Stabilisers and fuselages

The stabiliser — the « stab » — is the rear wing of the foil. It is the cheapest and most underrated part: it decides stability in flight, how the foil turns, and how hard pumping feels.

Big or small stab?

A large stabiliser steadies pitch and forgives mistakes in foot placement: the right choice for learning, for downwind and for long sessions. A small stabiliser frees the foil: it turns tighter and accelerates better, but asks for more precise piloting.

The fuselage matters just as much

The fuselage sets the distance between front wing and stab. Short makes the foil lively and tight-turning — exactly what surf foil calls for. Long flies straighter and steers more gently: more reassuring at the start and more efficient downwind.

Monobloc or separate parts?

At F-ONE, a MONOBLOC combines stabiliser and fuselage in one piece: fewer screws, more stiffness, faster assembly. Separate stabs let you vary combinations on the same fuselage.

Big or small stab?

  • Big stab: more stability and lift, easy and forgiving flight, easy pumping — ideal for beginners and small conditions.
  • Small stab: freer, faster, more agile and radical — for experienced riders, waves and racing.

Tuning and consistency

Many stabs adjust in incidence (shims) to fine-tune the front/rear balance. For consistent behaviour, match your stab to your front wing — ideally from the same F-ONE family.
