📘 How to choose — your buying guide

The foil is the heart of your session: it defines lift, speed, agility and how easily you fly. At F-ONE, the range is built as a logical progression — you start on a forgiving profile, then refine towards a more specialised foil depending on your discipline. Your ideal setup depends on 4 factors: your level, your weight, the conditions and your program.

Understanding aspect ratio (AR)

Aspect ratio is the relationship between the span of the front wing and its depth (chord).

  • Low AR — compact, stubby wing: more stability, forgiveness and low-speed lift, easy pumping to take off. Ideal for beginners and small conditions.
  • High AR — long, thin wing: better glide, top speed, upwind ability and efficiency, but more demanding to ride. For experienced riders, waves, racing and downwind.

Choosing well means finding the right AR compromise for your level and your playground.

The logic of the F-ONE range

F-ONE builds its ranges in progression stages that share a similar balance — for example GRAVITY → PHANTOM → SEVEN SEAS → EAGLE. You can move from one foil to the next without relearning everything:

  • GRAVITY: maximum volume and lift — perfect for beginners, light riders or light wind.
  • PHANTOM: the versatile benchmark — glide and accessibility, ideal for wingfoil and progression.
  • SEVEN SEAS: geared towards surf-foil and waves — agile and playful.
  • EAGLE: high aspect ratio — performance, speed and glide for advanced riders.

Choosing by program

  • Wingfoil: a forgiving, lifty foil to start (Gravity / Phantom), then more AR when you want speed and upwind.
  • Surf-foil: an agile, reactive foil in the wave (Seven Seas).
  • Kitefoil / race: high AR for speed and pointing.
  • Downwind / SUP-foil: lots of glide and efficient pumping.

Surface area: by weight and wind

The heavier you are or the lighter the wind, the more surface area (cm²) you need to take off early. The lighter you are or the more powered you are, the smaller you can go for more speed and control. When in doubt as a beginner, size up: a foil that takes off early dramatically speeds up learning.

Construction & technologies

F-ONE offers several constructions (aluminium, carbon, monobloc…) that affect stiffness, weight and price. Carbon offers the best reactivity and a feather weight; aluminium remains excellent value for getting started.
