Shimming the mast under the leading edge trims the board nose-up and helps you find a more comfortable stance and better board control at higher speeds.
Shimming under the trailing edge trims the board nose-down at lower speeds — when pumping, dock starting or going downwind — so the foil engages earlier.
Note: North boards and foils are designed to work together in their given discipline without a shim. The mast shim can still be useful when mixing board and foil brands, or when using a board or foil in conditions it was not designed for.
The mast connects your board to the foil: its length and material radically change the ride.
