« How much does it cost to get into wingfoiling? » It is the question we hear most often in the shop, and the honest answer is not a single number. Between a second-hand setup at CHF 2,500 and a full carbon kit at CHF 8,000 there is a factor of three. This article breaks down, item by item, what a complete wingfoil setup really costs in Switzerland in 2026 — using price ranges from our own catalogue, not theoretical figures.

The four essential items

1. The wing — CHF 499 to 2,299

The most visible piece, and the one with the widest price spread. A previous-generation or entry-level wing starts around CHF 499. The heart of the market — a current-generation wing such as the F-ONE STRIKE 6 QUADX — sits at CHF 900 to 1,200; run-out stock of the previous generation (STRIKE V5) often goes for around CHF 999. ALUULA and ultralight builds run up to CHF 2,299.

Is the ALUULA premium worth it? If you ride mostly light wind on our lakes, yes: the weight saving and stiffness genuinely change low-speed behaviour. If you are starting out, no: the difference stays invisible for your first twenty sessions. Browse all our wings.

2. The board — CHF 999 to 1,700 (more in carbon)

A new entry-level wingfoil board starts near CHF 999. The median of our range is around CHF 1,449, and carbon builds or specialised downwind boards go beyond CHF 2,000.

The classic beginner trap is buying too small « to progress faster ». In reality, a board at your body weight plus 25 to 40 litres will save you weeks. And you will resell it easily — it is the most liquid product on the second-hand market. Our wing boards range from inflatables to full carbon.

3. The foil — CHF 1,214 to 1,919 as a complete set

The foil is where you should not economise, because it directly determines your usable wind range. A complete set (mast, fuselage, front wing, stabiliser) costs between CHF 1,214 and 1,919 with us, with a median around CHF 1,469. You can also build it piece by piece: individual front wings start much lower, but once you add a carbon mast the total rarely comes out cheaper.

4. Harness, wetsuit and small gear — CHF 400 to 1,200

• Harness: CHF 145 to 399 for the vast majority of models (up to CHF 659 for premium belts). Essential as soon as your sessions pass the one-hour mark.
• Wetsuit: around CHF 136 for a top or shorty, CHF 250 to 400 for a quality 4/3 mm, up to CHF 750 for the most technical suits. On our lakes this item decides how many sessions you get per year. See the wetsuits section.
• Helmet and impact vest: CHF 80 to 250. Non-negotiable in the first weeks.
• Board leash, wing leash, pump: CHF 100 to 200 in total (the pump usually comes with the wing).
• Board bag: about CHF 219 for a padded model — cheaper than a single rail repair.

Three typical budgets, with real numbers

Smart start: CHF 2,500 to 3,500

A second-hand or previous-generation wing (CHF 650 to 900 — we regularly stock these in our second-hand section), a high-volume entry board (CHF 999), a solid complete foil (CHF 1,214), an entry harness (CHF 145) and a decent wetsuit. This setup genuinely works: your limit will not be the gear, it will be the hours you spend on the water.

All-round: CHF 4,000 to 5,000

A new mid-range wing (CHF 899 to 1,000), a board matched to your weight in a durable build (CHF 1,449), a high-performing complete foil (CHF 1,469 to 1,649), a good harness (CHF 269 to 399) and a 4/3 mm suit. This is the most common budget among our customers: nothing to replace for two or three seasons, and solid resale value.

Performance: CHF 6,000 to 8,000

ALUULA wing (CHF 1,500 to 2,299), carbon board (CHF 1,700 to 2,400), high-aspect foil in high-modulus carbon (CHF 1,649 to 1,919), plus a second front wing to cover the wind range and the full set of accessories. At this level you are buying grams and glide — justified once you ride more than thirty days a year.

Packages: the best value-to-coherence ratio

Buying board and foil together remains the safest way to end up with a balanced setup. Our Indiana board-and-foil packages sit between CHF 2,669 and 2,928 depending on volume, and the F-ONE packages are configured around your weight and your programme. The benefit is not only financial: it guarantees that mast, plate and board volume actually match — a classic mistake when parts are ordered separately from different sites.

What nobody budgets for

• Lessons. Two or three coached sessions save a month of trial and error. The best-spent franc in the whole budget.
• Consumables. A replacement bladder costs CHF 37 to 130 depending on size and model. Over five years, expect one or two replacements.
• Transport. Roof bars and straps if you do not drive an estate: CHF 150 to 400.
• Liability insurance. Check that your private liability policy covers the sport — it almost always does, but the phone call is worth it.

New, second-hand, or from abroad?

The Swiss market is often compared with EU shops and their lower VAT. The real arithmetic is less obvious than it looks: on import you add Swiss VAT, customs clearance and shipping — and above all you accept that after-sales service happens by parcel and email rather than across a counter. A wing taking on water after three sessions, a badly seated track plate, a mast to swap before the weekend: that is where the difference shows. Second-hand is an excellent way in — provided you know what to inspect: bladders and valves on the wing, cracks around the track plate on the board, galvanic corrosion between mast and fuselage on the foil. Our second-hand section only lists gear we have seen and tested.
