Properly caring for your gear for kitesurf, wingfoil and SUP extends its lifespan, ensures your safety and preserves its resale value. Here are our expert tips, easy to apply after every session on Lake Neuchâtel.
Rinsing: reflex number 1
Lake water, sand and sun are your gear’s worst enemies. After every outing, rinse everything with fresh water: kite/wing, bar, lines, foil, board, harness and wetsuit. Salt and grit get in everywhere and speed up wear.
Kites and wings
- Dry completely before folding (moisture causes mould and delamination).
- Don’t leave the kite in the sun or flapping in the wind on the beach: UV and flapping fatigue the cloth.
- Regularly check bridles, valves and seams, and repair small tears immediately.
Foils
Rinse the foil after every session and dismantle it regularly. Grease the stainless steel screws (anti-corrosion) and check the tightening torque. This prevents seized screws and galvanic corrosion between aluminium and carbon.
Wetsuits
Rinse with fresh water, dry in the shade on a wide hanger (never in full sun, never in a dryer). This keeps elasticity and warmth for a long time.
